Encouragement

Encouragement. All of us need a little of it from time to time. Therefore, we also should be quick to lend it. Oftentimes, we don't know what someone, whether it be a friend, family member, colleague or stranger is going through. Many times an uplifting email or quote someone posts on social media can be a pick me up to brighten someone's day. But for me personally, the best boosts are those that take place between two individuals in person.

Phone calls are nice. In this age of rampant texting, I still prefer to hear someone's voice. A good conversation, filled with laughs, always leaves me feeling better. Friends are priceless. A smile, hug, wink, kiss are great. So is a pat on the back from a co-worker. It's nice to know that in this selfish world, good still exists. Way too many people only think of themselves. I've been guilty of to, too many times. But, these days I'm trying really hard to be a bright spot in the lives of people I care about. I even want to make strangers' days. Maybe something I write will be life changing for them. I hope so. People do communicate, and word spreads. Goodness is something that trends on a daily basis.

For all of you who pick me up during the week, thank you! You mean more to me than you realize. God bless you!

Getting Back on Track

Well, I've missed about a week and a half because my computer has problems with its hard drive. Thankfully, it isn't dead. I just need a new component. When the part arrives, my great tech will be able to fix it. Meanwhile, she's got me up and running with a backup computer.

The delay was frustrating, but could have been a blessing in disguise. Three weeks ago, my last pet died, and for a few days it was hard to do anything without feeling sad. I still miss him, but I'm able to go about my daily routine and get all of my work done.

Computer problems, death of a pet, other problems life throws at me, all of them potential learning experiences - if we want to look for any good and hope to find it. Today was the first day back editing my novel, and I was able to pick up where I left off. Heck, I was able to add some insights into my characters' lives that maybe I wouldn't have been able to do before several weeks of intense trauma. Having a little bit of trouble helps to write about what it feels like to suffer. Writing with feeling helps the reader get inside the character and understand what he/she is going through. If we haven't experienced something, how can we write about it?

Life happens. It isn't always good. But, when trouble rears its ugly head, don't panic. When it knocks you off course, get right back to where you need to be. Take a day. Take a week. Take a month. But don't take forever. Get back on track and move forward.
