Granted, some material should never be published in the first place, let alone read by the masses. But in today's world of self publishing, anyone can have their book on the internet in just a few clicks. That's a little bit unsettling, but the really scary thing is the idea of banning anything that is offensive to only a few individuals who pitch a gigantic hissy fit and persuade others to follow their fanaticism. Did you know that Huckleberry Finn and Gone with the Wind are on the list of banned books? They are. Really.
Honestly, slavery existed. To say otherwise, or to attempt to cover it up is ludicrous. The Confederacy existed. A war took place in the 1860s. If we don't discuss and teach history, how will we ever learn from mistakes and know what not to do the next time a particular situation occurs?
Common sense is what's called for. Unfortunately, it seems as if THAT has been banned.
