The delay was frustrating, but could have been a blessing in disguise. Three weeks ago, my last pet died, and for a few days it was hard to do anything without feeling sad. I still miss him, but I'm able to go about my daily routine and get all of my work done.
Computer problems, death of a pet, other problems life throws at me, all of them potential learning experiences - if we want to look for any good and hope to find it. Today was the first day back editing my novel, and I was able to pick up where I left off. Heck, I was able to add some insights into my characters' lives that maybe I wouldn't have been able to do before several weeks of intense trauma. Having a little bit of trouble helps to write about what it feels like to suffer. Writing with feeling helps the reader get inside the character and understand what he/she is going through. If we haven't experienced something, how can we write about it?
Life happens. It isn't always good. But, when trouble rears its ugly head, don't panic. When it knocks you off course, get right back to where you need to be. Take a day. Take a week. Take a month. But don't take forever. Get back on track and move forward.
