During the past week I watched some of the highlight films from past Super Bowls. I also caught some documentaries about baseball, seeing as how they are being shown in anticipation of yet another season about to commence with spring training. The history of sports is exciting and educational. There's something about the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose. By showing past highlights, networks are keeping history current.
There's nothing boring about history. It is a great teacher. The Civil War and Revolutionary War are still popular topics, and will continue to be relevant. So will other events. Like the Super Bowl, controversial decisions and the opponents' reactions to them led to the difference between victory and defeat. We all need to step back in time to see how to make the present and future better. Keeping history current. If we don't learn from the past, we're doomed to repeat it. If we do learn from past mistakes, we're not likely to repeat them.
