It would be nice to have help with the chores, but I actually prefer to do them alone. I know how I want things to look, which sapling trees to leave undisturbed, what is planted where.
As I was putting my arms, arthritic knees and back through the ringer, I thought of how similar editing is to manual labor. I've written enough to know just how I want my voice to sound. No one else can match that. I go over a manuscript several times BEFORE turning it in to a publisher. When I hand it in, it's as neat as I can make it. They tend to appreciate that. So, it's not so bad to do things myself. As the old saying goes, "If you want it done right..."
